The 1939 Beam Ray Machine was reversed engineered by Aubrey Scoon of the British Rife Group and the results were presented at the 4th Rife Conference held in Las Vegas, Nevada in February 2002.    www.scoon.co.uk/

The following documents represent the 1939 Beam Ray replica that I built based on the information from Aubrey Scoon's website. If you see any errors in my theory, measurements or calculations, please let me know and I will make changes asap. I want to keep this website as my most current documentation on this work.

BR-39 rf oscillator schematic.pdf  -  1939 Beam Ray RF Oscillator schematic. Typically you would also need a function generator, booster amplifier and phanotron plasma tube. My replica of this version was based on Aubrey's website, when it alluded to a dc voltage from the power supply of 1750VDC and used an 812A transmitting tube and operated at carrier frequency of approximately 3.3 MHz.

BR-39 rf oscillator with corrected transformer.pdf  -  The latest new information from Aubrey is that the main transformer is a 617.5-0-617.5 VAC transformer giving approximately 550 VDC at the anode of the transmitting tube. Aubrey also believes that the correct transmitting tube is an 809, instead of an 812A triode vacuum tube. Aubrey claims that when he replaced the 812A with an 809 tube the carrier frequency shifted from 3.3 MHz to 4.68 MHz. However, when I did this on my system as seen in the BR-39 rf oscillator schematic with an 809 tube instead of 812A, there was only a small shift with the carrier frequency typically between 3.3 - 3.6 MHz.

812A.pdf  -  812A Transmitting Tube datasheet.

809.pdf  -  809 Transmitting Tube datasheet.

2.2k calc & meas.pdf  -  Impedance vs. frequency characterisics of the 2.2 kΩ DC equivalent resistor in series with the plasma tube.

6.2k meas & calc.pdf  -  Impedance vs. frequency characterisics of the 6.2 kΩ DC equivalent resistor used as the grid leak resistor.

Self-biased series feed Hartley Oscillator.pdf  -  Explains how the biasing with the grid leak resistor works. Also discusses motorboating , which I believe is the basis for the quenching frequency that Aubrey Scoon talks about on the 1939 Beam Ray machine.

BR-39 RF Osc PL.pdf  -  1939 Beam Ray RF Oscillator parts list based on Aubrey Scoon's corrected information.

BR-39 rf oscillator Z meas.pdf  -  1939 Beam Ray RF Oscillator schematic with measured or calculated voltages and impedances around the circuit.

BR-39, Tank Coil calculations.pdf  -  1939 Beam Ray Resonant Tank Coil calculations.

BR-39 Resonant Tank Calculations.pdf  -  These are the measurements and calculations of the overall resonant circuit components for the 1939 Beam Ray machine. The impedance of the 8" phanotron tube I use with this unit is also calculated, along with the power output by the tube.

BR-39, 8 in Phanotron Characteristic.pdf  -  The Voltage-Current (VI) Characteristic of the 8 inch Phanotron Plasma Tube in the 1939 Beam Ray machine with the 809 and 812A transmitting tubes.

BR-39 SSS rf oscillator.pdf  -  This is a semi-solid state version of the 1939 Beam Ray machine. The mercury vapor rectifier tube circuit was replaced with solid state diodes in a full wave rectifier circuit. The rf oscillator/transmitting tube portion of the circuit is identical to that in the original machine.

BR-39 SSS RF Osc PL.pdf  -  This is the parts list for the semi-solid state version of the 1939 Beam Ray machine.
